Mike Kamuf is a dynamic educator, composer, and trumpet player whose music connects generations of jazz artists. With a career spanning over five decades, Mike has written more than 150 published works and is an exclusive writer for Alfred Music's Belwin Division, with additional titles published by UNC Jazz Press, Kjos, and FJH. His arrangements are widely considered standard literature for young jazz ensembles worldwide.

 

As a performer and writer, Mike’s work has been showcased by iconic ensembles like the Woody Herman and Glenn Miller Orchestras, the USAF Airmen of Note, and jazz legends like James Moody and Sean Jones. Today, he leads the Mike Kamuf Little Big Band, a premier jazz octet featuring top talent from the Baltimore and DC areas.

 

A passionate educator, Mike recently capped a 30-year career with Montgomery County Public Schools (MD), where he spearheaded innovative student commissioning projects that earned him the Superintendent’s ABCD Award. He is an in-demand guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator who has directed Honors and All-State Jazz Ensembles across the country from California to Florida, and frequently presents at major conferences like The Midwest Clinic and the Jazz Education Network. Mike holds degrees from Youngstown State University and George Mason University.
